I am going to try to make this nice, polite and simple. I do not mean to be offensive, or mean.
First of all, let me say I have no dreams that I am some great S4 player or that I am better then everyone else, I really do not.
Secondly, I have no problems with AP, or the sales of it, I understand the need and the point.
But to get to the main topic, I wish to state that after several months of abscense, I left S4 after having issues with the community. One of the famous jokes of S4 is how you cannot expect anything less of the community, and I will say that outright. And I bet many of you will claim you have never heard or made jokes about how bad the community is, but let me be blunt. The community of S4 has felt to have degraded to the point where instead of trying to overcome obstacles, it is about how you can cleverly complain about them. For a long while, it was considered cool to do “Quit QQing.” And I think that has died, instead, I heard “Stop Raging.” As such I can just conclude that S4 goes in and out of fads for complaining and rather then trying to overcome the issue of rage or trying to find a new way around it, all they did was complain.
I will admit I complained for a while myself, I have stated in many games that the cs is overpowered and while I still believe it could use a bit of tweaking, I spent a long time working out how it functioned and how best to respond to it. And nowadays I am not as worried about it. Sure, I still think the bat and ps could use a bit of a boost to be on par with the cs, but I worked past it and stopped complaining except when someone started stating how the cs is not overpowered. I point out the facts and let it drop. After my return from being dormant, I came back and saw several people still complaining and being killed about things they were having trouble with from months before. And it seemed like none of them had tried to get past it. That being said, it feels like the result of issues in S4 is to complain about it, rather then trying to work past it.
Another option that came to my attention was about ninety percent of players I had trouble with, were packing AP. As I said before, I have no problem with AP, but it was just that, the only reason I had trouble with them was BECAUSE they had AP. I had to fill their head with bullets and leave myself open to being shot from the other sides longer then I would like. There were not particularly hard to kill and it didn’t seem like they tried to really avoid being shot. And that’s not just one person its many AP users I have met. It is no longer that AP is the icing on the cake of skilled players that should tear me in half, but that AP users find that there is no reason to dodge because the cloths and weapons make them so hard to kill that it is pointless.
Players I used to respect for being skilled feel like they have stopped trying to improve their game and instead just stack more AP upon more AP. It used to be just a matter of who has AP and who does not, but now it is a matter of more who has more AP. Its just not AP, or AP++ but now also Forcepacks. And with each new level, it’s no longer about skill but who can just tank the most or kill with the least amount of bullets. At first, I disliked AP, then after I got better I found AP users to be a fun challenge, but after a year, it seems the game has degraded to not using AP as topping off a cake of skill, but just icing on top of a muffin. Lots and lots of icing.
As someone who has played S4 for a long time, I can honestly say that the S4 community can be better then this and should be. I have seen the best of S4’s community and the worse. I have been through several hacker streaks and seen people complain about them. Broken guass, the hg nerf, broken ms. I have seen people take them in stride and work past them, and I have seen people complain. I know every pro out there is experienced as has the potential to bring something new to S4. But after my abscense I have seen nothing new. This is the third hiatus I have taken, the first two due to the game being made unplayable for me, and every time I return, it feels like S4 is a comfortable pair of pants that I could wear anytime. It SHOULDN’T. You all should be kicking my ass and making me work to get back up to the average level of skill.
I should never hear of the Wave Dash anymore. I should hear of the Hurricane or Tsunami Dash of Death. I should hear of skills and techniques and move that I could never dream of. I should have to sweat when I see someone coming at me, because I am not sure if I can hit them. I shouldn’t be worried about how many bullets I have left after I kill an AP user, or how much sp I will have after I pass this group. I should be worried about surviving.
And how can you all fix this with me? How can we make this community better, more fun and more enjoyable for everyone? Not by cussing at our bad teammates. Or ignoring our team, or hoarding points to brag about. Not by complaining about AP, or complaining about lag. Not by rage quitting about a hacker.
You see someone who is not as good on your team? Look at what they are doing while you are dead, give them advice. Your team not rushing? Get them psyched up, WE CAN WIN, who has speed and who doesn’t? Who has defensive weapons? Sit on the exit of their base and don’t let anyone pass. This is a team game. So what if your build isn’t good for rushing? Make it work. In a defensive build? Defend the entrance to their base.
If someone is using AP and is too hard to kill, if the team is packing enough AP to drown you, should you give up and wait till next game? No, because what does AP do? It just makes them do more damage if they hit you, and you do less if you hit them, but if they can’t hit you, who cares? If they hit you half as much as you hit them, who wins? Push them, make them sweat. Make them question if the AP is enough to beat you. You meet someone better? Ask them for tips, there are plenty of players who are great, AP and non, ask them to play you in a one vs one. Often times they can point out weak points and ways to practice. Everyone has been there, and everyone has to practice. The reason I think no one does that is because people are to typical to blame their team or yell at each other, or complain about something in the game that they don’t try to work with each other to get better. So you have noobs on your team, if you are really good, and a fun player to play with, you should be able to make them better, by any amount, if you work with them throughout the game.
I don’t see that. All I see is cussing, blame, complains and apathy to trying to get better.
You think an CS is overpowered? When was the last time you got a friend who was good with a cs and fought them, over and over again until you could hold your own, or better yet, tear them apart.
S4, I know you are better then this, but how many of you are ready to recognize the problem, and how many of you will blow it off.
Thank you.
